Walmart Named Title Sponsor of Joe Martin Stage Race

1 min read

Walmart Inc. of Bentonville will be the title sponsor of the 45th annual Joe Martin Stage Race in May in Fayetteville.

The race is the oldest stage race in the U.S. and is sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale, which sponsored the recent Cyclocross World Championships held at the end of January in Fayetteville. Walmart was also the title sponsor of that event.

“We are excited to be the title partner of this premier cycling event in North America that will be held in northwest Arkansas, where our company was founded nearly 60 years ago,” said Kim Tunick, Walmart’s senior director of brand experience and partnerships. “Our partnership demonstrates Walmart’s commitment to the community and promoting healthy and active lifestyles for our customers and associates.”

The Joe Martin Stage Race is a four-day event for professionals that include time trials, road races and criterium competitions. The races are based in and finish in Fayetteville but include surrounding areas due to the distances involved.

More than 800 cyclists from all 50 states and 27 nations are expected to compete.

“Walmart’s partnership with Joe Martin Stage Race is a game changer for our event,” said Bruce Dunn, the long-time Joe Martin race director. “With Walmart’s partnership we will be able to not only grow the race in terms of prominence, but to also upgrade key areas of the overall participant and spectator experience.”
