Walmart Inc. of Bentonville has agreed to sell outdoor retailer Moosejaw, which it acquired six years ago for $50 million, to Dick’s Sporting Goods.
The deal is expected to close in March. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Moosejaw of Madison Heights, Michigan sells brands including Rocky Mountain, North Face, Columbia and Keen, as well as biking and snowsports equipment. It was one of several brands, such as Bonobos, that Walmart purchased around 2017 to build its ecommerce presence.
In October, Moosejaw opened a 6,000-SF location in downtown Bentonville that employs 20 people. Walmart paid $3.38 million for the location. Moosejaw also operates brick-and-mortar locations in Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and Missouri.
Dick’s said in a statement that the purchase will expand its outdoor portfolio, which is currently led by its specialty retailer, Public Lands. The brand launched in 2021.
“We believe there’s potential to grow the Moosejaw business and provide compelling experiences and an expanded product assortment to its millions of loyal customers,” the company said.
