The Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart
The Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart is booking events after being closed because of water damage from pipes that burst in February 2021.
The burst pipes, caused by extreme cold, forced the extensive restoration to the facility which sits on the Phillips Community College Campus and offers 63,000-SF of meeting space. PCCUA owns and operates the center, whose spaces are suitable for business, social, civic, educational, cultural and entertainment gatherings and events.
SCM Architects of Little Rock, the original architectural firm, was brought in to develop a list of the building’s needs following the flooding. Renee Robison, executive director of the Grand Prairie Center, said the original architectural firm, SCM Architects of Little Rock, has been brought in to develop a list of everything that needs to be completed in the building.
Flooring throughout the building had to be redone, the baseboards replaced, the stage replaced down to the concrete foundation and the auditorium needed new chairs installed. Executive Director Renee Robinson said the building would be basically brand new on the inside.
The biggest challenge, other than the renovation itself, was getting materials delivered on time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Grand Prairie Center was closed from the time the damage occurred until the end of October, and was expected to begin holding events by the end of 2021. The center opened in April of 2011.
