Windstream to Provide Broadband in Bullitt County, Kentucky

1 min read

Windstream Holdings LLC of Little Rock has inked a contract to provide high-speed internet to more than 6,000 homes and businesses in Bullitt County, located in north-central Kentucky.

The $6.8 million project is expected to start in October, Windstream said in a news release.

It will provide internet speeds of up to 8 gigabits-per-second to eligible homes and businesses througout the county, including the communities of Cedar Grove, Solitude and Brownington.

Under the partnership, the county will commit $2 million. Kinetic, a business unit of Windstream that provides broadband service to residential and business customers, will invest $4.8 million and cover cost overruns, Windstream said.

Kinetic will lay 170 miles of optical fiber cable in the area. Work should be complete next year, the company said.

The broadband provider also launched a digital literacy program at the Bullitt County Central Library where residents can gain digital skills training. The free program includes videos in computer skills, basic office software skills and daily technology skills, Windstream said.

Kinetic recently opened a 30,000-SF regional headquarters at the University of Kentucky’s Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington.
