Marta Loyd joins the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Feb. 10.
Winthrop Rockefeller Institute said Tuesday that it has hired Marta M. Loyd of Greenwood as the institute’s next executive director.
Loyd worked 17 years at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where she most recently was vice chancellor for university advancement. During her 12 years as vice chancellor, her office raised gifts and pledges of $57 million.
“We are extremely thrilled to make this announcement,” Milo Shult, president of the WRI Board of Trustees, said in a news release. “Dr. Loyd’s long track record of helping UA-Fort Smith grow into a top-notch educational institution speaks for itself. We look forward to seeing what new heights WRI can reach under her leadership.”
Loyd said she’s excited to join the institute.
“The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute has established itself as a first-class conference center that brings diverse populations and thought leaders together to discuss important ideas affecting our state and nation, especially those ideas that are important to honoring the legacy of Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller,” Loyd said.
Loyd’s first day of work at WRI will be Monday, Feb. 10. As executive director, she will be responsible for managing an annual budget of more than $6 million and working to establish strategic directions for future programming that meets the institute’s mission.
The board also said that Gary Greene, who’s been WRI’s interim executive director since June 1, will retain his positions of director of finance and administration and chief financial officer.
The University of Arkansas System established the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in 2005 with a grant from the Winthrop Rockefeller Charitable Trust.
