Woman-Run by Wright Lindsey Jennings Presents Kendalynn R. Bolton

3 min read

Kendalynn Bolton is a mother of five and wife to minister Michael Bolton. She is a baker and cake artist who owns KB’s Love by the Pound and More.

Bolton grew up in Malvern where she currently resides. Once the pandemic hit, Bolton’s family was forced to break an almost 30 year tradition of Sunday dinners in order to protect their grandmother, the family’s cook and baker, who was vulnerable to COVID-19 because of her prior battle with breast cancer.

The family decided to learn how to make their grandmother’s traditional dishes to create a sense of normalcy in their individual households.

As a small business owner, what is your vision for your business and our community?

My vision for my business is to become one of the largest dessert distributors in the world, providing jobs, and passing on my skills, tips and tricks to aspiring bakers and cake decorators.

Tell us about your business journey.

I’ve always been a really good cook but baking wasn’t a strong suit. I decided after multiple failed attempts with regular cakes and boxed cakes that I would conquer the cream cheese pound cake. I studied the recipe and borrowed a fluted tube pan from my grandmother.

I had a hard time initially but I successfully baked a delicious cream cheese pound cake! I went on to gift pound cakes to church members and was encouraged to start selling them. After practicing and taking samples for feedback to my co-workers, I created multiple flavors and officially began my business in baking in April of 2021.

What advice do you have for keeping a team focused and motivated in challenging times?

Whatever is going to happen will happen, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it other than control how we respond to situations as they arise.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of my career so far has been speaking on a panel for the entrepreneurial track during the 2024 Women’s Leadership Symposium. I love to uplift and encourage other women.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life and career?

Samantha Stewart, owner of Certified Pies, has taught me business and connected me with some of the best to help mine grow. Like me, she is a wife, mother and business owner. Though she is younger than me, I look up to her and anytime I have a question, she is right there! She is like a sister to me and I am so grateful for our relationship.

Tell us the most meaningful piece of career or life advice you have received.

An entrepreneur by the name of Stephanie once told me to put my blinders on, block out the noise and all of the distractions around me so that I could focus only on what I bring to the table.

How do you like to de-stress after a difficult day/week?

Escaping reality and watching a good movie always does the trick!
