Construction officially began Wednesday on a new plaza near the Big Dam Bridge at Cook’s Landing Park.
The Big Dam Bridge North Plaza will replace a pavilion damaged by historic flooding of the Arkansas River in 2019. When completed, the $400,000 project will provide a space for visitors to congregate away from bike traffic. It will feature a bicycle repair station, benches and a drinking fountain with a bottle filler.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2023.
Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde attended a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday along with North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick, Bert Parker with Big Dam Bridge Foundation and Metroplan Deputy Director Casey Covington.
“We’re fortunate to have many wonderful individuals and organizations invested in not only our trails, but also Pulaski County,” Hyde said.
