Taylor Otwell is proud of how his company has empowered fellow entrepreneurs.
The Hot Springs native earned his bachelor’s degree in information technology from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.
He was a programmer for ABF Freight in Fort Smith, then founded the highly successful Laravel, which offers a framework companies can use to build their own web applications plus training and other resources.
The company hosts “Laracon” conferences in the U.S. and Europe every year.
Otwell enjoys hearing from enthusiastic users at those. “When I first created it … I was building myself a tool to where I could launch my own tech company and build my own web applications by myself,” he said. “And so the tool is really designed to let even just a single individual build an entire web application from scratch on their own.
“So I think that’s why I get a lot of feel-good stories ... from these people that have transformed their lives using a really good idea.”
Otwell is also involved in Hack Club, a computer science education nonprofit.
