Tina Fletcher interned for Michelle Obama and raised money for Barack, but surprisingly those jobs are not her greatest career achievement.
“That was being named teacher of the year my first year in the classroom, 2010, at Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C.”
The following year she was interning at the White House.
Fletcher, who studied at the University of Arkansas and Harvard before beginning work on her doctorate at Penn, started Fletcher Education Solutions in 2016 with her twin sister, Trina, with a goal of rebuilding Arkansas’ teacher workforce and assisting underserved schools and communities, particularly in the Delta.
They grew up in tiny Plumerville and had rarely spent a night apart before college. (Trina attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, also got her Ph.D. and is now an assistant professor at Florida International University in Miami.)
Tina Fletcher launched the Praxis Prep Institute in 2020 to help Arkansas teachers pass licensure tests, a program that has drawn her national notice.
And by the way, she says, the Obamas are both “down to earth and very likable.”
