David W. Garner
Senior Vice President and Controller
Simmons First National Corp.
Pine Bluff
David Garner’s interests in business and accounting pulled him away from pursuing a law degree. His entry into accounting led to work with banking clients.

"That was what really brought me into banking," Garner said. "When I first started with Simmons it was in the audit department. From there, I've had a lot of opportunities with the company."

He joined Pine Bluff’s Simmons First National Corp. as an auditor in November 1997 and rose through the ranks as an assistant vice president and vice president with the organization. Garner was named senior vice president and controller in December 2006.
Before joining Simmons, he started his resume with one-year stints during 1994-97 as an accountant at Knox Nelson Oil Co. in Pine Bluff, a certified public accountant at the Priddy & Holifield firm in North Little Rock and a regulatory accountant at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

Garner, 39, grew up in White Hall and in 1994 graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

He serves on the board of directors of the Arkansas Governor’s Quality Award and the Pine Bluff Downtown Rotary Club. Past volunteer work includes the CARTI Festival of Trees and Habitat for Humanity.
