"As I learn more, I can then apply that knowledge to knowing how to understand and respond to the needs of others, whether that is in my job or in my community," Strickland said.
Strickland, 39, took that advice and left her accounting position in 2002 to join the law firm of Cross Gunter Witherspoon & Galchus of Little Rock. As business manager, Strickland's duties include supervising the accounting and marketing duties for the law firm, which has 22 attorneys in three offices in Arkansas.
Strickland helped the firm, which specializes in labor law, win the gold Governor's Work-Life Balance Award in 2008 and 2009.
In her spare time, Strickland has been involved in the Junior League of Little Rock for eight years and is its president-elect. She also is a member of the Leadership Greater Little Rock Alumni Association and was in the Women's Foundation of Arkansas' Emerging Leaders Class I of 2008-2009.
"One of the best things I can do as a volunteer is to inspire another generation of volunteers," Strickland said.
