"It was a good time, and I would say that I definitely did well," Tomlin said.
Describing himself as a serial entrepreneur, Tomlin moved to Rogers to work for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., helping launch the online component of the company's financial services business.
Before long, he had decided to go back into business for himself, starting Rockfish in November 2005. The agency, which designs Web sites and develops Web applications, has grown into a business with 50 employees and opened a Dallas office in January. The company now lists companies such as Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and Procter & Gamble as clients.
And being located in Arkansas is not the hindrance one might think.
"Most people don't associate what we do with Arkansas. Most of the time they think of San Francisco," he said. "But there is so much talent here and opportunities here that it is a great place to start a company."
Tomlin, 36, also has started and invested in other companies, including SilverJoes Coffee Co. and www.genofish.com. Rockfish also recently launched www.crazyhotjob.com, which posts one "crazy hot" job a day.
