A Manager of Fiber Services is responsible for oversight of fiber optic line construction crews and subcontractors associated with fiber optic service work. Assures that fiber services are performed in a safe manner for the protection of employees and the public with established standards and regulations.
Directs the activities of the Fiber Optic Services Department working through Foremen and other personnel as needed.
Conducts routine field inspections to review the quality and quantity of work being performed giving direct guidance to Foreman.
Assigns work crews for scheduled and emergency work when needed. Works within budgetary constraints to provide an economic advantage to member cooperatives consistent with the highest quality of uninterrupted service possible and by utilizing employee practices that promote good customer relations and timely response to customer needs.
Promotes and enforces safety standards and the adherence to safety rules, regulations and practices.
Contacts customer representatives and consulting engineers on a routine basis regarding day to day activities of crews engaged in work for the customer.
Directs the purchase of materials needed for projects, evaluates and locates necessary equipment.
Solicits and prepares bids and assists Foremen in the interpretation of blue prints and staking sheets.
Assists office personnel in monthly billing and preparation of yearly capital and operating budget.
Assists maintenance shop personnel to ensure that all vehicles and equipment are maintained in proper working condition and meet all safety requirements.
The ability to handle necessary stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
Associate’s Degree, plus at least 8 years related experience and/or training, including 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Training, Certification or directly related progressive experience in fiber optic construction is required.
Must be on-call 24 hours a day in case of emergencies
Must be able to travel throughout the Fiber Services Department's service area and stay overnight.
Must have general mechanical knowledge of vehicles used in the construction of fiber optic lines.
Must have working knowledge of: construction plans and specifications, RUS approved construction materials, OSHA safety regulations, National Electric Safety Code, and all other national safety codes, State and local labor regulations.
Class A CDL License
CPR and First Aid Training
Post high school level courses in business management, line construction, secondary electrical systems, distribution maintenance, etc.
