Position Location: UAPB Fish Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Lonoke, AR

Qualifications: A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in fish biology, fish health, fish pathology, aquaculture, or a closely related field, or a veterinarian with fish health experience is required. Fish health diagnostic experience, experience in commercial fish production, and Extension are strongly preferred. Applicant must possess or pursue AFS-FHS certification as an Aquatic Animal Health Inspector within six (6) months of hire. Experience with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) certification process according to OIE (World Organization for Animal Health), AFS-FHS (American Fisheries Society Fish Health Section) Bluebook, the Northeast Fish Health Committee Guidelines, and current Canadian regulations is highly desired.
Nature of Position: The UAPB Lonoke Fish Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, located in the heart of the commercial baitfish industry, is one of the eleven facilities approved by APHIS nationally. The lab specializes in the diseases of baitfish, ornamental fishes, and water quality. The Fish Health Certification Laboratory is approved to inspect fish for export and is one of the most active labs in the APHIS Farm Certification Program. The Director, Extension Fish Health Specialist will oversee this lab, and also provide vital field support for the Arkansas aquaculture industry. Job responsibilities include developing and implementing a dynamic Extension program related to solving fish health problems on commercial aquaculture farms, maintaining a high-level of fish health and water quality diagnostics services for commercial fish farms, and training county Extension agents.
