Assistant Professor of Anthropology

Lyon College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology position beginning in August 2019. We are seeking a cultural anthropologist trained in a four-field discipline, who can teach introductory courses across subfields. Geographic specialty is open, although particular consideration will be given to candidates who conduct research within the United States. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or advanced ABD in cultural anthropology, evidence of effective teaching and student mentorship, commitment to creating an inclusive classroom supportive of underrepresented categories of students, and a developed research and writing agenda. Additional responsibilities may include academic advising and service on college committees. Experience at a small, residential liberal arts college as a student or as a faculty member is desirable. Absent that experience, an understanding of the difference between a small college and a university and the desire to be on the faculty of a small college are important. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Lyon College is located in Batesville, Arkansas, a safe and historic town of 10,000 that serves as commercial, medical, social, and governmental hub for an eight-county area and named by USA Today as the best city to live in in Arkansas. The College currently enrolls almost 700 undergraduate students from 24 states and 15 foreign countries. Entering freshmen have an average high school GPA of 3.5 and an average ACT composite of 24 and SAT score of 1117.
