STEAM Specialist
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)

POSITION SUMMARY
The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Specialist will infuse and model the Girl Scout Law into their everyday work to fulfill the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

The STEAM Specialist is responsible for goal setting, planning, marketing, and implementation of programs at the STEAM Center at Burnham Woods. This position is also responsible for creating STEAM focused collaborations and program partners throughout the council jurisdiction.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
• STEAM Center Accountabilities
• Programming
• Researches/develops high-quality innovative program opportunities and develops curriculum for girls K-12, which incorporate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and national program portfolio curriculum and ties to Next Generation Science Standards, to be delivered at the STEAM Center at Burnham Woods
• Plans and implements regular STEAM based programs, troop encampments and day camps at the STEAM Center
• Offer/provides badge workshops to troops that rent space at Burnham Woods
• Develops and delivers volunteer trainings on STEAM programming (for troop leaders)
• Conducts follow up evaluations and reports after programs and events; analyzes feedback to continuously improve quality programs
• Marketing
• Identifies and works closely with experts in the community to develop and market the STEAM Center to increase usage by Girl Scouts and outside community
• Creates a timeline for, and effectively markets STEAM Center programs and activities to Girl Scouts across the state
• Works closely with recruiters to offer opportunities for non-Girl Scouts to participate in STEAM Center programming
• Community Outreach and Partnerships
• Conducts outreach to local schools and community organizations to engage youth in STEAM activities, market programs at the STEAM Center and aid in the recruitment of girl members and adult volunteers
• Aids in the forging of strategic partnerships to support and/or enrich STEAM Center programming
• Management of STEAM Center Volunteers and Committees
• Identifies, trains and supervises volunteers and/or interns to work in the STEAM Center and/or assist with program facilitation
• Work with STEAM Advisory committee to build quality and relevant STEAM based programs for Girl Scouts across the state as well as school groups and other community youth serving organizations
• Acts as a liaison and/or facilitator for the STEAM Leadership Program Team/youth advisory committee
• Professional Development and Subject Matter Expertise
• Seeks out and attends professional development to learn more about STEAM based programming and best practices in youth leadership and positive youth development
• Researches best practices in STEM/STEAM based learning to share with GSLE Specialists and Support Specialists
• Stays up to date in knowledge and promotes current trends in GSUSA program portfolio content and best practices in STEAM programming, youth development and girl programming
• General - Maintains cleanliness within the STEAM Center and takes care of all equipment and fixtures in the Center
• Departmental and Organizational Accountabilities
• Aids in the implementation of Diamonds’ Signature Events across the state
• Identifies and works collaboratively with other community-based organizations to create and deliver educational and leadership development programs for Girl Scouts of all age levels
• Collects and processes Troop Travel applications for region.
• Utilizes and aids in the promotion of the Volunteer Toolkit
• Efficiently submits work, budget, and event reports to Program Director
• Participates in reporting, budgeting, goal setting, strategic planning and outcomes evaluation
• Aids in marketing Burnham Woods property rental
• Provides support to council fund development programs
• Perform other duties as necessary

KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in education, science or recreation or experience commensurate with degree
• 2-3 years’ experience in program and curriculum development, working with adults and youth
• Experience cultivating collaborative relationships with key community leaders
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Preferred
• 2-3 years’ experience in STEM/STEAM programming
• Experience working with adult and youth volunteers
• Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS
• Willingness to facilitate and/or assist in facilitation of outdoor programming
• Ability to perform duties including but not limited to; public speaking for large audiences, hands on program delivery working with Girl and Adult members, and be able to work in the outdoor elements
• Ability/confidence to cultivate collaborative relationships with key community leaders
• Demonstrated ability in youth program design and management
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
• Subscribes to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
• Strong human relations skills and have ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds
• Ability to exercise good judgement and follow direction
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent computer skills
• Solution driven with the ability to effectively problem solve

HOURS AND TRAVEL
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including substantial amounts of nights and weekends
• 25% travel required
