Fiber Construction Crew Lead



This position requires an extensive and varied knowledge of fiber system construction and equipment. Responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and executing OzarksGo's new and existing fiber construction projects. Performs and directs a variety of duties related to the installation, operation, repair and maintenance of fiber distribution systems.

Reports to: Outside Plant Manager
Supervises: Construction Personnel as assigned


Responsible for assuring all work placing, lashing, laying and installing of coax or fiber cable and appurtenant equipment is completed in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and customer specifications. Monitors crew safety, quality of work, progress/schedule, and cost; coordinates project work with personnel.
Directs the activities assigned personnel, assigns work, and assures that all directives and responsibilities are understood and that work is equitably distributed; establishes a professional work culture; demonstrates proper work methods, assisting personnel, as needed, in the performance of his/her work.
Assists in analyzing and evaluating operation and maintenance activities relative to customer facilities and assists in investigation and resolution of service problems to assure that installations and services are made in compliance with required specifications and to maintain customer confidence and satisfaction with our fiber optic service delivery.
Assists in the training and development of employees.
Satisfactorily completes ongoing safety and performance training.
Reports on status of work, cause of delays, need for process improvements, and on performance of individual workers.
Prepares all operational reports as required in carrying out his/her duties.
Assures the equipment is used properly for its intended purposes and within its design limitations.
Keeps supervisor advised of work progress and activities.
As needed, performs after-hour maintenance and repair work.
Promotes positive relationships with co-workers, OzarksGo subscribers and members of the OzarksGo's Management.
Assist Outside Plant Manager as needed.
Keeps informed of and provides support for OzarksGo's goals, policies, plans and programs to assist OzarksGo in providing services which meet the expectations of our customers and to allow the OzarksGo to continue to be a positive influence within its service area.
Any and all other duties assigned necessary to fulfill the objectives of OzarksGo.

Consumer/Subscriber: Courteously answers member inquires, or directs them to the appropriate person.
Other Utilities: Maintains contact with other utilities during construction and maintenance activities.
Public Officials: Works with and assists Highway Departments, state and local; law enforcement agencies, state, county, and city when necessary. Works with city inspection personnel to enable jobs to be completed.


Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate verbal and written instructions of moderate complexity.Must be familiar with the considerable hazards that exist in falls, automobile traffic and falling objects and with the proper use of protective and safety equipment. Must be able to perform first aid, CPR and pole top rescue. Five years' experience in fiber optic construction with increasing levels of responsibility required.

Equipment Operated: Must have a current Arkansas driver's license without violations that would prohibit insurability or which would adversely impact ability to perform job, and with a Class A commercial endorsement. Must be able to operate all assigned equipment including bucket, bulldozer, forklift, backhoe, trencher, directional drill, winches, drills, chainsaws and high compression tools.

Abilities and Skills: Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, construction plans, and procedure manuals. Required to write or complete standard operational and status reports and simple correspondence. Requires ability to speak effective before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to apply simple mathematics and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Requires ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to deal with a variety of people in varying situations with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and see, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions: This position is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The position is considered a safety sensitive position; that is, there are inherent risks in performing the job and the employee holding the position will be responsible for his/her and others' safety. This position is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to high. Hours may be irregular and include nights, weekends and holidays.
