IT Network Engineer

DESCRIPTION

The Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. The Network Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all network hardware, software and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training and support where required in accordance with the mission and core values of the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Planning

Consult with department heads and users to asses network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping and processes
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network administration, usage and disaster recovery.

Acquisition and Deployment

Design and deploy LANs, WANs and wireless networks, including firewalls, routers, switches, access points, VOIP phones and other hardware.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Oversee new and existing equipment hardware and software upgrades.
Interact and negotiate with subsidiary, vendors, and contractors to secure network products and services.

Operations Management

Configure networks to insure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling cooperative objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment and other network appliances.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
Participate in managing all network security solutions
Perform server and security audits and system backups and recovery.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Experience with LAN, WAN and WLAN design
Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS services.
Knowledge of SCADA architecture and security requirements
Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and wireless technologies.
Knowledge of Juniper firewalls, routers and switches.
Knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls, Central Management Servers and policy rules.
Knowledge of Checkpoint VPN's and Remote Access.
Familiarity with primary routing technologies such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS etc.
Familiarity with EVPN/VXLAN technologies in relation to a spine leaf openclos architecture.
Hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
Competence and capability to utilize testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
Excellent understanding of the cooperative's goals and objectives.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer service orientation

FORMAL EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS

Education

The Network Engineer will have a bachelor's degree and 4 years related experience, an associate's degree with 6 years of related experience or 12 years of related experience.

Certifications

Desired Juniper JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-ENT, JNCIP-ENT
Desired Checkpoint CCSA, CCSE or CCSM
Alternative Cisco CCNA, CCNP

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for an office environment plus some work in outdoor environments requiring safety procedures. Work requires extensive work using a computer. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to the needs of the systems and users being supported.
