Network Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. The Network Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training and support where required in accordance with the mission and core values of the company.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Senior Network Engineer or Network Architect


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Planning

Consult with department heads and users to assess network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping and processes
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.

Acquisition and Deployment

Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including firewalls, routers, switches, access points, VOIP phones and other hardware.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Oversee new and existing equipment hardware and software upgrades.
Interact and negotiate with subsidiary, vendors, and contractors to secure network products and services.

Operations Management

Configure networks to insure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling cooperative objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment and other network appliances.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
Participate in managing all network security solutions
Perform server and security audits and system backups and recovery.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Job knowledge and Training: Bachelor's degree and 4 years related experience, an associate degree with 6 years of related experience or 12 years of related experience.

Certifications:

Desired Juniper JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-ENT, JNCIP-ENT
Desired Checkpoint CCSA, CCSE or CCSM
Alternative Cisco CCNA, CCNP

Equipment Operated: All specific equipment related to Information Technology as well as routine office equipment. Must have valid driver's license without violation, which would prohibit insurability.

Abilities and Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to communicate technical information both written and verbally to immediate supervisors, peers, and end users. Demonstrated ability to create detailed technical and business documentation required.

Experience with LAN, WAN and WLAN design
Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS services.
Knowledge of SCADA architecture and security requirements
Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, and wireless technologies.
Knowledge of Juniper firewalls, routers, and switches.
Knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls, Central Management Servers, and policy rules.
Knowledge of Checkpoint VPN's and Remote Access.
Familiarity with primary routing technologies such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS etc.
Familiarity with EVPN/VXLAN technologies in relation to a spine leaf openclos architecture.
Hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
Competence and capability to utilize testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
Excellent understanding of the cooperative's goals and objectives.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer service orientation

Physical Effort: Occasional lifting, up to 25 pounds, required. Normal vision and hearing required.

Working Conditions: Working conditions are normal for an office environment plus some work in outdoor environments requiring safety procedures. Work requires extensive work using a computer. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to the needs of the systems and users being supported.
