The Director of HSE is responsible for the development and execution of health and safety plans in the workplace. This individual prepares and enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safety as well as evaluates practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law. This position manages Crow safety and risk programs to ensure a safe, incident-free work environment; plans and/or delivers programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices; promotes safety by working with management and field supervision to analyze current situations and recommend safety improvements; and analyzes accident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented. The position may have direct reports. The Director of HSE reports to the President.
Duties & Responsibilities
Visit job sites to conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materials.
Evaluate, assess, and alter safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees and clients.
Research and implement new materials handling processes.
Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts.
Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees and vendors.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.).
Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance.
Track incident metrics and apply findings .
Oversee applications for and receipt of necessary permits.
Lead injury and incident inquiries, investigations, and evaluations.
Responsible for all aspects of safety, including OSHA, illness and injury prevention, SDS, safety audits, and accident investigations; partner with other departments with workers’ compensation, risk management plan, and process safety management.
Perform audits and reviews to identify systemic EHS management gaps, develop corrective measures, and implement solutions to sustain compliance with HSE law and company HSE policies and standards.
Leverage lessons learned and develop continuous improvement EHS programs.
Responsible for verifying new equipment/construction meets federal and state regulations.
Conduct and/or facilitate safety programs and OSHA required training and certifications, i.e., telehandler, confined space, lockout/tagout, and CPR/First Aid training. Perform new hire and annual safety training.
Review Incident Investigation Report to ensure completeness and that appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence. Facilitate corrective action development, implementation, and tracking.
Develop site-specific safety plans for new projects.
Proactively drive the Crow Behavior-Based Safety Program.
Support injury/illness full life cycle claim management.
Update to management on current laws and regulations.
Manage OSHA compliance, state, and local regulatory compliance.
Review and modify as applicable the safety and health training content.
Manage the Crow Safety Management and Computer Based Training Programs.
Manage and update Crow third party subcontractor databases.

Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree preferred (preferably in environmental health and safety)
6+ years in EHS and construction industry
CHST Certification preferred
Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards with regard to construction
Ability to train, influence, and motivate team members
Some travel required (10%)
