POSITION SUMMARY:
To accurately prepare and update digital data maps for the system and to maintain GIS (Geographic Information System) files so that the requirements of the Cooperative may be met in an orderly and economical manner.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: GIS Administrator
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and maintains maps of the system, which accurately show location of all consumers, lines, devices, roads, and other background details.
Updates system maps on the computer network daily.
Assigns work order number, meter location number, consumer description type, county code, city limit code, school district code, rate code, substation number line section number, and meter route number to each work order for new service on both the electronic staking sheet and in the location billing file.
Performs field checks, including the collection of GPS data, as necessary to verify line locations for new and existing facilities. Remedies, under close supervision, any GPS/GIS errors prior to transfer to mapping system.
Prepares special drawings using latest available technology.
Responds by phone or radio to calls regarding work order status and location of facilities.
Assists with report preparation pertaining to the Section.
Assists Staking and Technical Services sections as necessary.

The GIS Technician I shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Members: To inform and explain objectives, policies, and programs of the Cooperative in such a manner as to create and maintain good relationships.
Developers and engineering firms: To obtain digital plats as necessary.
General Public: To represent the Cooperative in a positive manner.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Job Knowledge, Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in GIS, CAD, or two years in the position as an Engineering Aide or other related field preferred. Knowledge of Mapping/CAD software required. Must have basic understanding of GPS, GPS equipment and its uses. Must be able to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Will be required to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must be able to increase knowledge and skill in technical matters through on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Must be able to effectively present information either by correspondence or in face-to-face situations. Must be able to apply problem-solving techniques to oral or written instructions.
Equipment Operated: Computers and specialty attachments directly related to GIS/GPS. Must be able to use machete and small trim saw.
Abilities and Skills: Must be able to work accurately with minimum supervision. Must have a current Arkansas drivers' license.
Physical Effort: Must be able to learn and perform CPR and first aid. Must be able to walk and/or hike over rough and heavily forested terrain in unfavorable conditions. This position must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions: This position primarily works in an office environment with occasional outdoor activities. Working outdoors could result in occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions; hot, cold; dry, wet; etc.
