GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of network systems including the hardware and software, optical equipment, and data, video, and voice communications. To implement best practices in networking to provide optimum data, voice, and video services to subscribers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the network required to provide data, voice, and video service to subscribers as well as back office integration required for administrative support.
Responsible for day-to-day security of networks infrastructure and service provider applications.
Designs and implements network connectivity for layer 2 and 3 LAN and WAN connections, including documentation of network connections.
Provides support to subscribers to access the network successfully.
Maintains all network devices with all firmware and software updates and security patches and features.
Develops special programs and scripts in coordination with end-users to allow for more effective and efficient utilization of all systems including integration.
Receives and evaluates requests for additional network applications and makes recommendations on required hardware and software to assist in determining whether or not these requests will meet the user's needs and function in coordination with our existing hardware and software.
Assists in training and provides technical assistance to users and subscribers as requested or directed to help users become more proficient in the use of the network.
Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to policies, procedures and regulations.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Technical degree required in such disciplines as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Administration, etc, plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 2 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Advanced knowledge in network administration and engineering required. Knowledge in fiber optics including high capacity networks including DWDM, 10gbps, 40gbps, and 100gbps interfaces. Extensive high-level understanding of the following skills and their application in a network environment are necessary:
TCP/IP
Fiber optic cabling
IPv4 and IPv6
Network address translation
Ring topologies
Routers
VoIP
Multicast
VLAN
Server operating systems
