Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements: These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of vocational-technical school coursework in construction or building trades or a related area; and four (4) years of experience in the design or inspection of commercial and/or industrial building construction. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and construction standards governing design, construction, and use of all buildings.
Knowledge of building construction materials, fixtures and methods.
Knowledge of design and installation standards for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Knowledge of the design and inspection of commercial and/or industrial building construction.
Knowledge of computer fundamentals and business software, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Knowledge of hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.
Skill in the operation of a computer utilizing database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Skill in the operation of a desk calculator.
Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission vehicle.
Ability to read and interpret codes and standards that apply to construction of buildings and structures and their associated systems.
Ability to inspect commercial and industrial building construction sites for code violations.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports detailing deficiencies and city relevant code sections.
Ability to establish and maintain hard copy and computerized files and records.
Ability to identify code violations and construction defects at the construction site and on plans.
Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing with inspectors, contractors, builders, and citizens.
