J.D. Lowery’s motto is to treat everybody like he’d treat the boss. It keeps him humble and helps in recruiting and retaining businesses in areas served by the state’s electric co-ops.
“Economic development is a team sport, and we’re just one of the stakeholders at the table,” said Lowery, a University of Arkansas graduate with master’s degrees from the Clinton School of Public Service and Harding University Graduate School of Business. “Seeing others as the boss shows a level of courtesy and respect no matter who you’re dealing with.”
It’s a habit the Maumelle native developed while working for one of his mentors, former Gov. Mike Beebe, in four years at the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, where he directed the Arkansas Energy Office.
“What we offer at the electric cooperatives, affordable and reliable energy, is very important in making Arkansas attractive to businesses,” he said.
A member of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class 31, Lowery is on the board of the Centers for Youth & Families, for which he and his wife, Jennifer, chaired the Evolve Gala fundraiser in April.
