Cogswell Family Settles Squabble

1 min read

Remember the family feud surrounding the operation/ownership of Cogswell Motor Co. in Russellville?

After noisy exchanges in court filings, the various Cogswell family members quietly settled the case.

And the settlement is labeled a secret one in contrast to the very public squabble.

However, there is some unfinished business in connection with the case.

One of the law firms has sued to collect $9,807 for unpaid legal services in connection with the case.

The Little Rock law firm of Jewell Moses Fletcher and Holleman claims the money is owed by Mary Kay Cogswell McNeill, Ann Cogswell and Margaret Cogswell and the Keith B. Cogswell Jr. Testamentary Trust.

A trial is scheduled for this matter, but we won’t be surprised if an 11th-hour settlement is reached.

With annual sales of more than $30 million, Cogswell Motor Co. ranked 25th on Arkansas Business’ 1999 list of the state’s largest auto dealerships. The enterprise employs an estimated 70 full-time staffers and its roster of new-vehicle lines includes Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda.

According to 1998 appraisals cited in court records, the value of the business ranged between $2.7 million and $3.9 million.
