Shane Perry shared some of Walmart’s management tips while he was on the stand in his divorce proceeding in 2018.

Perry is the former in-house attorney for the Bentonville retailer who is suing the company for wrongful termination. (See Former Walmart Lawyer Says His Firing Was Punishment.)

Perry said at the 2018 proceeding that his management style at the retailer was a “macro-level” one, which is what Walmart teaches people to have. He said he helped manage compliance for United States stores.

“Because of the size of the company, you have to hire and position people to assume responsibility for different things,” Perry said, according to the filing at the Arkansas Court of Appeals. “My duty was to monitor what happened and provide those people the support and guidance they needed. Not micro-manage.”

As you know Walmart remains No. 1 on the Fortune 500 list of the country’s largest companies by revenue with $524 billion.

Another nugget Perry offered involved meetings with employees.

He said at the end of the meeting, he summarized the important points, which was a “common practice at Walmart. …

“That method was used as a way to ensure matters do not get forgotten about,” Perry said. “And that Walmart recommended we always summarize the end of our meetings in that manner.”
