WLJ Tech Law Partners With ReMix Ideas to Support Black Entrepreneurs

2 min read

WLJ Tech Law in Little Rock announced last week its new partnership with ReMix Ideas to help remove barriers to Black entrepreneurs in accessing knowledge, capital, opportunities and resources.

WLJ Tech Law is a specialized group of Wright Lindsey Jennings attorneys dedicated to educating and advocating for entrepreneurs, tech startups and established technology businesses.

WLJ’s commitment will directly support ReMix Ideas’ efforts to enhance the Arkansas Baptist College Entrepreneurship Program, one of the many community initiatives the company has championed since its founding in 2017.

ReMix is working toward a goal of raising at least $25,000 to enhance the program. More than $13,000 has been raised since the June 12 launch of “Shop Black Live,” a QVC-type virtual platform for Black vendors, fashion designers, artisans and small businesses.

“We are delighted to partner with WLJ Tech Law to build runways for Black entrepreneurs to start and run successful businesses,” said Benito Lubazibwa, CEO of ReMix Ideas, in a news release. “The racial wealth gap between African Americans and Whites is widening in the U.S. at an alarming pace. According to the study by Prosperity Now and the Institute for Policy Studies, if the racial wealth divide is not quickly remedied, the median household wealth of African Americans is on target to hit zero by year 2053. We must take meaningful action to close the racial wealth gap. The status quo is unsustainable, and we must not level the playing field, but establish a new one.”

Brandon Middleton, WLJ Tech Law’s lead attorney, said, “We are proud to strengthen our partnership with ReMix Ideas at this critical moment. In light of COVID-19’s impact on small businesses and entrepreneurs, particularly of color, and with the impact racism has had and continues to have on entrepreneurs of color, it is more important than ever to support Black-owned businesses. It is our hope that collaborating with ReMix Ideas will help to build a more inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

In addition to Shop Black Live, which is streamed weekly on Shop Black Live’s Facebook page, Remix’s offerings and events include:

  • Coronavirus-related grant support and technical assistance;
  • The “Battle of Ideas” pitch contest;
  • Early-stage startup consulting;
  • The Little Rock Night Market;
  • The Africa Day Fest; and
  • The ReMix Ideas Business Academy, a 12-week entrepreneurship program for which WLJ Tech Law has provided educational programming.
