Dr. Roscoe Chan has joined the team of cancer specialists at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Cancer Center.

Chan is a radiation oncologist and has more than 25 years of experience in the field.

Chan most recently served as medical director of radiation oncology at Christus Schumpert/Highland Cancer Treatment Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He also served as assistant professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed medical school at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Gary Frankowski and Dr. Brent Walker have joined the OrthoArkansas Spine Institute in Little Rock, where they will specialize in nonsurgical spine intervention and management. Frankowski has more than 20 years of experience in anesthesiology. Walker specializes in general anesthesiology and pain medicine.

Dr. David Bumpass, Dr. Steven Cherney, Dr. Simon Mears and Dr. Theresa Wyrick have been appointed vice chairs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

Bumpass was named the vice chair for research, Cherney was named the vice chair for education, Mears was named the vice chair of quality and safety, and Wyrick was named the vice chair for faculty development.

Bumpass joined UAMS in 2015 and is an orthopedic spine surgeon and associate professor of orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery.

Cherney, who joined UAMS in 2017, is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery.

Mears joined UAMS in 2015 and is a joint replacement surgeon and professor of orthopedic surgery.

Wyrick, who joined UAMS in 2009, is an orthopedic hand surgeon and associate professor of orthopedic surgery.


Hong-yu Li, a researcher with the Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS, recently received a five-year $1,265,834 grant from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health, based in Bethesda, Maryland. Li’s grant will allow him to work toward developing treatment options for acute myeloid leukemia patients.

Brandon Baker has been named Safety Professional of the Year by the Associated Builders & Contractors of Arkansas. Baker is the health safety and environmental director of Crow Group Inc. of Morrilton.
