Veteran publisher and former Baxter Bulletin advertising director Mark Elliott took over leadership of six Arkansas newspapers in May as a group publisher for Paxton Media Group of Paducah, Kentucky.
Elliott, previously publisher of Paxton’s Daily Star of Hammond, Louisiana, is now overseeing The Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, The Courier News of Russellville, The Batesville Guard, The Daily Citizen of Searcy, The Van Buren County Democrat in Clinton and The Sun Times in Heber Springs.
The local newspapers reported on Elliott’s appointment, but it got little notice elsewhere.
“Local content is important to the reader, and our mission is to inform and entertain them,” Elliott was quoted by the Log Cabin Democrat at the time. “By doing that, we’ll provide a good platform to our advertisers.”
A veteran of at least eight newspapers, Elliott spent more than two years as advertising director of the Bulletin, Gannett’s property in Mountain Home, from late 2010 to January 2013 before departing for the Goshen News in Indiana.
Elliott’s predecessor at the Log Cabin Democrat and other papers, Frank Leto, started last month as a business development executive at Diamond Media Solutions Inc. of Plano, Texas. A former advertising vice president at the Dallas Morning News, Leto said he had “relocated back to the Dallas area in June to secure a position where my customer service, sales ability, marketing experience and success are rewarded.”
