J. Max Van Hoose Named President of Harps Food Stores

Harps Food Stores Inc. has named J. Max Van Hoose president of the Springdale-based grocery chain.

Van Hoose’s promotion from executive vice president took effect Jan. 3, the company said in a news release. He has been with the company since 1997, when he was hired as director of construction of and equipment. 

As president, he’ll continue to oversee store development, acquisitions, construction and real estate.

“J. Max has demonstrated his value to Harps in a great many ways during his tenure as Executive V.P. and I am very happy to see this well-deserved promotion take place,” Kim Eskew, chairman and CEO of
Harps, said in the release.

Van Hoose is a native of northwest Arkansas who holds a bachelor’s in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas. He earned a master’s in business administration from the University of Kansas.

Van Hoose is a former president of the Springdale Rotary Club and a former chairman of the Springdale Chamber of Commerce. He’s a member of the University of Arkansas’s Academy of Industrial Engineers, serves on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Grocers Association, and is commissioner of the Springdale Water and Sewer Commission. 

Harps, founded in 1930, operates 120 stores in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. It employs more than 5,500 people.
