Technology, Top Employees Give Company Staying Power

In 15 years, Innerplan Office Interiors founder and chairman James Narup has seen his company’s volume grow about 500 percent.

But keeping up that pace isn’t Innerplan’s only intention.

Company president and CEO Paul Holland has designs on retaining knowledgeable employees who give his company depth, dimension and expertise. Holland says those are important parts of Innerplan’s ability to provide customers the solutions they need.

Founded in 1979, Innerplan designs and equips work environments. The company specializes in office furniture sales, space planning, workstation design, project management and installation.

Keeping knowledgeable employees on board goes to the company’s ultimate goals, which Holland says are to make people’s lives better and to grow, improve and take care of clients’ needs today and in the future.

Holland attributes the company’s staying power to its investment in technology, which they predicted would have a big role in the industry. Technology has given his employees the tools to do their jobs with more speed, fewer errors and greater agility, Holland says. Efficient tools have also kept Innerplan’s margins consistent, he says.

Now with 22 full-time employees, Innerplan began as Arkansas Business Furnishings. Narup started his company to support the architectural design community in central Arkansas. The company still works with that market, helping them provide the quality work environments for their clients for the best price, Holland says.

In 1988, the company changed its name to Innerplan and moved to the old Hollis & Co. building on East Third Street in Little Rock.
