Springdale

A recent merger has DMD Inc. of Springdale looking for even bigger things in its unique market.

DMD, formerly DMD Industries Inc., merged with Westrim Crafts of Van Nuys, Calif., last August in a move to grow the six-year-old business.

Founded by Randy and Christine Meier, DMD sells paper products for the craft industry, including card stock paper, spiral-bounded memory books, tissue paper, gift bags, blank greeting cards, stickers and die cuts.

DMD had more than 40 percent growth in the past year. Founded in 1996 with three employees, DMD now boasts 200 employees.

DMD has a client base of more than 8,000 stores in all 50 states as well as Canada, France, Japan and South Africa. Some of its more notable retail clients include Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Michael’s and Garden Ridge.

About 70 percent of all DMD products are manufactured at its Springdale facility.

“Our success lies in the fact that we listen to what the customer wants,” said Victoria Miller, DMD’s marketing manager. “We provide products they need rather than create a product and then try to sell it.

“Our company philosophy is to exceed our customer expectations. By following that philosophy, we’re very successful.”

DMD continues to operate independently from Westrim and will keep its corporate office in Springdale.

Westrim, with a new 175,000-SF facility in California, has more than 50 years of experience serving the craft industry. It was sold to Sequoia Capital Partners in 1998.

“We’re looking to grow,” Miller said. “This should create new jobs for us.”
