2003 // Category III (76-300 Employees)

North Little Rock

Today’s incarnation of Twin City Bank is taking the familiar name to new places. Started in June 2000, the North Little Rock bank is part of a fast-growing operation with an ever-expanding statewide presence.

Its parent company, TCBancorp, has raised $50 million in capital through five separate stock offerings to keep pace with the growth.

The startup venture hit $100 million in assets during the first 12 months, reached the $300 million milestone in the summer of 2003 and broke the $400 million mark by the end of 2003.

The company established 12 branches in its first four years of operation. At least three more are slated to open this year.

During 2003 alone, the bank opened seven branches in Pulaski County – a state record.

Even with the extra costs associated with such rapid growth, Twin City managed to end 2003 with a $606,000 profit.

“If there’s one word to describe what we’ve done, it’s partnership,” said Bob Birch, president and chief executive officer of the bank.

The partnership refers to Twin City’s 99 employees, 500 stockholders and thousands of customers, who have accounted for the fast-paced financial build up.

Adding to the momentum is the $43 million acquisition of Community Financial Group Inc., the holding company of Community Bank in Cabot. Twin City will take over First Community’s Sherwood operations as part of the deal.

Twin City’s parent company will gain a 20 percent stake in the combination cash/stock deal while the remaining 80 percent is owned by TCBancorp’s largest shareholder – Home Bancshares Inc. of Conway.

Twin City also is an important component of a future publicly traded multi-bank holding company facilitated by Home Bancshares.

Among the company’s biggest challenges are increasing profitability while maintaining its growth track and recruiting personnel to keep service levels top-notch in the state’s largest and most competitive bank market of Pulaski County.
