Though the message on Nabholz Construction Service’s corporate logo is, simply, “Integrity,” it could just as accurately read “Generosity” or “Humility.” Any or all of those virtues could describe the construction company, which Bob Nabholz founded in 1949 in Conway.
In 1987, he established the Nabholz Charitable Foundation to ensure the company’s continued philanthropy. The company and the foundation have supported dozens of nonprofits, schools, charities and hospitals over the years, giving, on average, between $200,000 and $250,000 each year, said Sherri Claassen, vice president of marketing.
Community giving is part of the culture throughout the company, which has offices in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. Employees volunteer for many causes, including Habitat for Humanity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the March of Dimes Foundation and the National Kidney Foundation. Many of the executives and managers at Nabholz serve on boards and committees for nonprofits and charities, Claassen said.
In addition, the company often authorizes on-the-clock volunteer work for its employees, she said.
Recently, Nabholz workers built new pantries for Bethlehem House, a homeless shelter in Conway. It has supplied labor and materials for dozens of playgrounds and playhouses, which the company builds and donates for charity auctions.
But one could be forgiven for not being aware of these activities because Nabholz is not given to drawing attention to its philanthropic endeavors.
“We don’t do it for the recognition,” Claassen said. “It really is strictly because we want to be good stewards for our communities and the areas in which we live and work.”
Claassen quoted CEO Bill Hannah as saying the company’s leaders believe it is important for the communities in which Nabholz employees live and work to have quality education and health care, and that is why the company supports the universities, colleges and hospitals in those areas.
