Superior Senior Care in Hot Springs wants to keep its elderly clients in their houses rather than a nursing home.
Founded in 1985, Superior Senior Care provides in-home, non-skilled care for elderly or disabled Arkansans who are at least 21 years old, said Joe Pascual, who co-owns the business with Rita Hurst.
“We think that they do so much better” in their homes, he said. “They’re happier because they’re surrounded by the things that they’ve grown up with and know.”
Superior Senior Care first assesses the needs of its elderly clients. Then the client is matched with potential caregivers, and the client makes the decision on whom to hire, Pascual said.
The client sets the scheduling of when the caregiver comes, which might be for a four-hour visit. In some cases around-the-clock assistance is provided to help with such things as meal planning, medication reminders and transportation.
By establishing a bond between the caregiver and client, “we feel that has led to our success,” Pascual said. “And it’s working.”
Since January, Superior Care has added two offices, giving it 16 in the state. It has 51 office employees and 1,300 contracted caregivers for its more than 2,000 clients, Pascual said.
Its revenue has been climbing too. In 2008, Superior Care had $12.1 million in revenue. Its revenue was $14.9 million in 2009 and more than $16 million last year.
With the growing number of baby boomers, the business outlook for elderly care is good, Pascual said. The company is considering expanding to neighboring states, but nothing has been decided, he said.
“We’re very conservative in our approach,” Pascual said. “We’ve very happy with the numbers we’ve been able to generate over the last 25 years.”
