Pablo Garcia worked more than 15 years as a subcontractor before he launched his family’s roofing company in 2001. Since then, annual revenue has grown from less than $50,000 to more than $1.5 million. The company’s formula for success in its competitive field consists of hard work, honesty, quality service and materials and good communication. Garcia, 54, has come a long way since growing up in Matehuala, Mexico.

His successful entrepreneurial immigration story includes field work as a young man in Louisiana and learning English from watching television news before he ventured into construction work in Arkansas during the 1980s.

Garcia pursued small, labor-only jobs during the early years of his business before developing into a full-service roofing venture that covers tear-off, replacement, overlay, repair and disposal. A full-time staff of five oversees the installation of an array of roofing materials that encompasses asphalt shingles, cedar shake and tile. Nearly all of its work is in the residential market.

Garcia & Son also installs TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) systems, which feature hot air-welded seams that produce a solid synthetic rubber moisture barrier. The tough, resilient membrane stays much closer to ambient air temperature than other roofing systems. The Little Rock venture expanded its services to include gutter work in 2012, creating today’s corporate moniker: Garcia & Son Roofing & Gutters.

“Our main objective is to make our customers happy,” said Allison Garcia, Garcia’s wife and co-owner of the firm. “Through hard work, and oftentimes sacrifice, our company has grown more from having happy customers than any other advertising. It is an old saying, but still recognized by us, that the customer is always right.”
