Karen Shaw Named Chief Risk Officer at Citizens Bank

1 min read

Citizens Bank of Batesville has promoted Karen Shaw, the company’s CFO for the past 10 years, to chief risk officer.

In her new role, Shaw’s primary responsibility will be identifying and assessing significant competitive, regulatory and technological threats to the bank. She’ll work with management to develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to minimize such risks.

Shaw will continue to act as an adviser to the bank’s senior management, offering recommendations to reduce risk exposure in the areas of credit, operations, information technology, and asset liability management.

“Our leadership team trusts Karen’s expertise to identify risk and lead the development and implementation of mitigation initiatives in all areas throughout the Bank,” Adam Mitchell, Citizens Bank president and CEO, said in a news release. “We are fortunate to have her in this new role.”

Shaw was named Arkansas Business CFO of the Year in 2021. She’s a member of the University of Central Arkansas College of Business advisory board, the Greater Arkansas American Red Cross board, the University of Arkansas Community College of Batesville Foundation board, and a board member of the Christmas Brings Hope food box program.

“Citizens Bank has a strong foundation in risk management,” Shaw said in the release. “I look forward to working with our outstanding team to continue to build and evolve the Bank’s infrastructure to protect the Bank, its customers, and the communities we serve.”
