Business readers know Marshall Butler as director of commercial services for Pinnacle Advisors in Little Rock. But for more than a year, he’s also been vice president of business and finance at Lyon College in Batesville.

“My engagement with Lyon College is through Pinnacle Advisors,” Butler said as an aside in a conversation about tax law provisions that are scheduled to “sunset” at the end of 2025. “I serve as their CFO through our outsourcing program.”

Lyon’s bold plans to build a dental school in Little Rock and a veterinary school in Cabot drew Butler’s attention. He happens to have offices in both cities.

“Any small, private liberal arts college that ventures out to start a dental and a vet school in Arkansas, that’s something I can get behind,” Butler said. “I’ll plow that row with them. It’s an ambitious goal, I think everybody can agree.”

Lyon announced in May that the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine would be at 5 Allied Drive in the Riverdale neighborhood in Little Rock, in the former Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield building.

Renovation is underway and the school plans to enroll its first students next summer.

The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine expects to enroll its first students next fall.

Its multi-acre campus is off Exit 21 of U.S. 67 in Cabot, adjacent to Game Time at The Grounds city park.

Lyon College already had an agreement with Cabot Animal Support Services to provide learning opportunities in animal care and health management to the veterinary students. Cabot’s Animal Services Center will be built on-campus.

“They want to go after all that,” Butler said, “and I’ll support them however I can.”
