Industrial Gas Producer Messer Plans $70M Facility in Berryville

2 min read

Messer Americas of Bridgewater, New Jersey, the largest privately held industrial gas business in the world, on Tuesday announced plans to build a $70 million facility in Berryville to meet growing demand for its products in the South.

The company plans to build an air separation unit (ASU), which is designed for the production of oxygen, nitrogen and argon in liquid or gaseous form from atmospheric air. Messer’s website says its air separation units can also produce rare gases, such as krypton, xenon, neon and helium. The company, a subsidiary of Germany-based Messer Group, owns and operates more than 300 of the plants for all types of applications in more than 40 countries.

The project in Berryville will create more than 20 jobs and complement the company’s existing production facility in Lewisville by enhancing overall capacity.

“This investment reflects our dedication to providing a dependable supply of industrial gases like oxygen and nitrogen to meet the evolving needs of our customers in food and beverage, healthcare, metals, chemicals, and many more industries,” Elena Skvortsova, president and CEO of Messer Americas, said in a news release.

The project is slated for completion in the second half of 2026. It comes after Messer announced plans to in 2022 to build a $50 million air separation unit in McGregor, Texas. The facility in central Texas was scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

Arkansas offered the following incentives for the Berryville project: the Tax Back program, which provides sales and use tax refunds on the purchase of building materials and taxable machinery, and seven years of the Create Rebate program, an annual cash rebate based on the number of jobs added by a company and targeted wages.
