Books By The Pound, an independent bookstore based in Searcy, is expanding to a second location in North Little Rock.

The new location at 601 W 4th St. in North Little Rock is the former home of The Command Center, a temporary staffing agency, and Lot Traffic, a food truck court and event venue. According to a Facebook post from Books By The Pound, the lot is around two acres. The Pulaski County Assessor’s Office estimates the building, built in 1951, is 8,560 SF.

Books By The Pound is a family-owned and operated bookstore that opened in 2021. The company currently owns a 28,000-SF warehouse in Searcy, which houses 10,000 SF of bookstore space and 18,000 SF of processing area.

The store sells collectible books, toys, vinyl records, DVDs, CDs, cassette tapes and VHS tapes, with prices based on weight. The business also supplies wholesale merchandise to smaller vendors.

According to social media, Books By The Pound is owned by Richard Howell, a commodities broker and owner at SEL Paper Inc. of Collierville, Tennessee.

The post did not state a specific opening date, but told followers to “stay tuned” for updates and opening day announcements.

“No promises,” a Facebook comment from the business stated. “But our thoughts are that we’ll be able to do a soft opening by Dec 1st.”

Other comments on the post suggested the new space could also feature a coffee bar.
