Eureka Springs Hospital announced last week that Doug Hoban has joined the leadership team as interim CFO.
Hoban has more than 30 years of experience in health care finance and operations, with a focus on rural health and critical access hospitals.
“I’m looking forward to putting my experience to work for ESH,” Hoban said in a press release from the hospital. “There are so many opportunities ahead, especially with the Rural Emergency Hospital designation, and the innovative thinking of the leadership team and commission.”
The appointment follows the Dec. 29 firing of Cynthia Asbury, the hospital’s former CFO. The hospital terminated then-CEO Angie Shaw in 2024, hiring Tiffany Means as the new CEO in August 2025.
Shaw and former nursing director Jessica Petrino filed wrongful termination lawsuits against the hospital in December 2024, according to the Eureka Springs Times-Echo.
Hoban moved to the Ozarks in 1995, where he has worked extensively with hospitals across Arkansas and Missouri.
“Doug’s depth of experience in rural health care finance and operations will be instrumental as we strengthen ESH’s financial foundation and advance our vision for stable, sustainable, community-focused health care access in 2026 and beyond,” Means said in the press release.
Throughout his career, Hoban served as executive finance director for Mercy Hospital-Lebanon in Missouri for more than 11 years, and later as CFO for Salem Memorial District Hospital in Salem, Missouri.
“Doug’s career reflects a consistent and disciplined dedication to improving financial strategies and outcomes in rural health care,” Sandy Royce Martin, chair of the hospital commission, said in the release. “His strategies align seamlessly with ESH’s strategic growth plans and our commitment to serving the needs of our community.”
