Derrick Smith has been promoted to managing director of Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard PLLC of Little Rock, succeeding Jeff Thomas. “Derrick’s 25 years of dedicated legal service with our firm, including his leadership as chair of our Regulated Business Practice Group and valued contributions on our Board of Directors, make him the ideal choice to guide us forward,” Thomas said in a press release announcing Smith’s promotion. “The Board and I have full confidence that Derrick’s experience and commitment will continue to strengthen our firm’s legacy and ensure our future success.”
Smith has been with Mitchell Williams since 2000. He has held several leadership roles at the firm, including chair of the Regulated Business Practice Group and a member of the board of directors. Before joining Mitchell Williams, Smith was a law clerk at the Arkansas Court of Appeals. His practice focuses on insurance regulatory law and government relations, advising national and regional insurance and business clients on regulatory and government challenges. “I look forward to supporting and serving our talented, dedicated, and diverse collection of professionals as they continue to advance the support of the goals of our incredible clients and contribute to our wonderful communities,” Smith said in the press release.
Smith earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, graduating with honors. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in American studies from Hendrix College in Conway.
