Gov. Mike Huckabee said Wednesday that he has appointed Freddie Black of Lake Village to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Huckabee made the announcement during a morning news conference at the Game and Fish Commission headquarters in Little Rock.
Black, 46, grew up on the banks of Lake Chicot, the state’s largest natural lake. He replaces Marion McCollum of Stuttgart. Black’s term will expire July 1, 2009.
Black is the president of Simmons First Bank of South Arkansas. He has held that position since 1994. He worked from 1980-84 for First State Bank & Trust of Lake Village and served from 1985-94 as executive vice president of Simmons First Bank of Lake Village.
“Being appointed to the Game and Fish Commission is a dream come true for me,” Black said.
Black is the board chairman for the Arkansas Nature Conservancy. He also is a member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Island 82 Hunting Club and the Woodstock Island Hunting and Fishing Club.
