Two Arkansas companies, ABF Freight System Inc. of Fort Smith and Acxiom Corp. of Little Rock, announced this week that they have been cited as innovators in information technology by InformationWeek magazine’s 2008 InformationWeek 500 list.

"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said Rob Preston, InformationWeek editor-in-chief. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year’s winners, and the CIO’s and other executives whose ingenuity and risk-taking are at the center of business technology innovation."

InformationWeek seeks to identify and honor the most innovative users of information technology by tracking technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies.

This is ABF’s third consecutive year to make the list, according to a news release. The company’s selection was based on innovative inventory management tools and its cultivation of customer intimacy via online shipping tools.

"ABF continually improves supply-chain management by integrating quality processes and real-time information with leading-edge technology," Roy Slagle, ABF senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in a news release. "Our customers have come to expect time- and money-saving applications from us. In addition to meeting the needs of our customers with these innovative applications, it’s also gratifying to have our efforts recognized by such a prestigious organization."

The online list ranks the top 250 companies. ABF was listed as No. 202 with revenue of $1.709 million. Dave Cogswell, president of logistics & transportation, was listed as the highest-ranking IT executive.

ABF is the largest subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation.

Acxiom said this is the second consecutive year it has made the list. It was not listed in the top 250, and no further information was available online.

"It is an honor to be recognized among the best of the best in innovative technology practices," Acxiom CEO and President John Meyer said in a news release. "Our clients rely on us to get closer to their customers, and we understand the strategic role information technology plays in making those connections across many different channels."
