If you’ve wondered what’s happening in the case of the Little Rock husband-and-wife physician team who were charged with health insurance fraud in excess of $1.2 million, well, here’s your answer: Their trial has been postponed.
Dr. Robert Barrow and his wife, Dr. Angela Barrow, were indicted in April by a federal grand jury on one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and six counts of health care fraud that exceeds $1.2 million. Robert Barrow also faces four counts related to billing Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield for ultrasounds that weren’t performed.
Their trial has been moved from Jan. 12 to Feb. 23 in federal court in Little Rock in front of U.S. District Judge J. Leon Holmes.
“This case involves allegations of a complicated scheme to engage in health care fraud,” Holmes wrote in his order. The trial is expected to last at least two weeks.
Both Barrows have pleaded not guilty and are practicing at Renaissance Health & Wellness in west Little Rock.
You may recall that Conway massage therapist Billy Marc Young waived indictment in a related case and pleaded guilty in April. Young, who supposedly helped perpetuate the alleged health care fraud, is expected to testify for the prosecution of Drs. Robert Barrow and Angela Barrow.
A sentencing date still hasn’t been set for Young, who pleaded guilty to making a false statement related to a health care matter. He agreed to pay $267,871 in restitution and to forfeit $311,130.
