Construction on the 1,920-SF Health Science Simulation Center at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia is underway, the school announced Tuesday.
The center will be the region’s first rural simulation-based, health-care educational training center.
Funding for construction and equipment is being provided by a grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas. Construction cost the project is $94,686 and equipment cost will be $149,128, the school said. Equipment will include hospital beds, crash carts, AED trainer, CPR trainers, mobile medication center, and audio-visual equipment with recording capabilities.
The center will be open for groups across the Ark-La-Tex region to engage in simulation education and professional training. It will also provide a unique, hands-on type of instruction for nursing students at SAU, with a higher level of acute care experience, the school said.
Construction is expected to be completed by June.
