Bear State Financial Merges 3 Bank Charters

1 min read

Bear State Financial Inc. of Little Rock, the holding company for First Federal Bank, First National Bank and Heritage Bank, said it completed a merger of all three bank charters under one name, Bear State Bank.

Rebranding efforts for all First Federal Bank, First National Bank and Heritage Bank locations in Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma will be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2015, the company said in a news release.

The publicly traded company (Nasdaq: BSF) applied with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in December to merge the charters. The merger was completed Tuesday.

Bear State Bank will consist of 43 branches and 2 loan production offices in 27 cities throughout Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

The company said the new name “is inspired by Arkansas’ reputation as ‘The Bear State,’ earned in recognition of its abundant population of black bears in the 18th and early 19th centuries.”
