Seeds of Truman Arnold Began with Road Runner

1 min read

TAC Air was launched nearly 30 years ago as Road Runner Aviation, a subsidiary of Truman Arnold Cos. ranked by Forbes at No. 215 among the largest private companies in America with more than $2.1 billion in revenue.

The move was an extension of Truman Arnold’s roots in the fuel business, which date back to 1964 as a Conoco distributor and the launch of its Road Runner convenience store chain in 1969.

Truman Arnold became a regional fuel marketer in 1975 after buying Conoco’s assets in Arkansas and east Texas. In 1989, the company sold its 125-store Road Runner chain, which operated in seven states.

“They’ve proven to be good business operators and good corporate citizens in Arkansas,” said Bob East, a member of the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission.

TAC Air employs more than 400 in its operations at 14 airports: Amarillo, Texas; Denver; Fort Smith; Hartford, Connecticut; Knoxville, Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; Little Rock; Omaha, Nebraska; Provo, Utah; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; St. Louis; Salt Lake City; Shreveport; and Texarkana.
