The Walmart Foundation donated $250,000 to the Jones Center in Springdale on Friday.
The money will help the center, a community and recreation venue with two indoor swimming pools and an indoor ice rink, provide access to children and families. The center said in a news release the money would help fund its summer youth programs and membership scholarships for others.
The center said it provides scholarships for 900 members.
“We’re proud to support the Jones Center,” said Karen Parker of the Walmart Foundation. “Our funding will provide affordable access to the center’s many programs and help families live better in northwest Arkansas. Whether it’s the recreation facilities or the afterschool programs, youth and families in our area rely on the center to provide a safe, fun environment for learning and development.”
Kelly Kemp-McLintock, the chief advancement officer for The Jones Center, said the donation will help keep the doors open for more people.
“It enables us to stay accessible to all people,” Kemp-McLintock said. “It allows us to [make] a lot of day-use passes available. We’re a great venue for families.”
