The Little Rock Farmers Market’s Tuesday market will return to morning to mid-afternoon hours once the Tuesday market opens on June 2.
Last year’s “night market” from 3-7 p.m. was an experiment that failed, said Diana Long, director of River Market operations. And though the Tuesday market “officially” opens June 2, Long said that a handful of farmers who grow and sell strawberries — and other products — will be at the market on Tuesdays before that official opening, May being the strong strawberry month in Arkansas.
“We thought we would do something a little bit different and experiment a little bit, and our attendance didn’t grow like I hoped it would,” Long said.
In addition, evening hours were harder on some farmers who preferred coming in the morning and found themselves at the market for an awfully long day.
Long noted that vendors who were new to the Saturday market last year will be returning this year, along with some new ones. She said BoBrook Farms of Roland will be selling its River Bottom Winery wine at the market.
In addition, Long said, the Little Rock Farmers Market will take Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) payments this year for the first time.
The Saturday market opened on May 2 and will run through Oct. 31. The Tuesday market will run through Aug. 25.
